Spring Flowers for Birds

Posted by Linda Pittman on

spring flowers for birds warbler in cherry tree  Everyone loves to see spring flowers after a long winter. You are probably thinking about them when the deep freeze is at it's coldest. Spring flowers are also important to birds. They have fewer reserves.  They are mating or nesting.  Migrating birds need food to continue their journeys. Think about perennial plants to add to your garden to help them. It is easy to combine beauty with function. Some excellent spring flowers are rhododendron or columbine. Flowering bushes leaf out and provide sheltered nesting sites. Fruit trees blossom, then produce fruits such cherries, while other trees have blooms that make seedpods, like Redbud trees. Think of your birds when you think about what is available in your area.
